My love for city tubes, underground, metro systems, subways and trains dates back to my time working in London, for a PR Agency at Ravenscourt Park. Gu Lang Yu is a superb magical island off the coast of Xiamen in the Fujian Province of China. To reach it you take a ferry from Xiamen. It’s a very different type of island and definitely worth a visit!

Well you’ve heard the phrase “The Venice of Asia” a lot of times, you might even have read about it twice on my blog when I visited Tai O (Hong Kong’s Venice) and Pingjianglu in Suzhou (China’s Venice). A lot of places get given this Venice of Asia moniker and today it’s all about Kampong Ayer in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei.

China is the world’s most populous country but for some reason a lot of the big name travellers seem to avoid it. And even if they do head there, they seem to go to places like Beijing and Shanghai. But that’s not really China now is it? Both those cities are globalised now, and even have street signs and maps in English. It’s time for the truth on how to really visit China- get off the beaten track!!

China offers a range of fantastic food that you might never have heard of elsewhere. How about some sweet rice, with colour added to it? It certainly sounds intriguing and if you head to the fantastic Jiulong Waterfalls in China’s Yunnan Province then you can try the sweet coloured rice. It’s near the city of Luoping in the Yunnan Province.

Train travel in China is always exciting, I just love it. But Chinese high speed train is even more scintillating! With an influx of new routes, super clean, super fast trains, the age of smoky, shaking Chinese carriages are fading out. In the last year I have taken a few trips on the high speed rail in China. And even splashed out on “First Class” just to sample it! That’s a “backpacker” travelling First Class (and guess what even the First Class was cheap enough!).
