Visiting The Worlds Biggest…

August 15, 2014 4:16 pm    |    by Jonny Blair

People have many reasons to travel and it’s the diversity of those reasons that makes it such an interesting society. While some travellers want to see the most beautiful natural features of the world and others want to visit the most interesting cultural heritage highlights of the world, there are some of us who just want to see the biggest, tallest, greatest, oldest etc. of what the world has to offer. If you are planning to visit dubai you can apply for dubai visa online. Here are some of my tips from the United Arab Emriates, North Korea and beyond.

The Tallest Buildings

Many countries in the world compete in trying to have the world’s highest building and it seems that whichever building has the record for being the tallest, it doesn’t hold on to it for long. There’s always another one being constructed somewhere that is just a metre or two taller. As of 2014, the five tallest buildings in the world are Burj Khalifa in Dubai at 828m, Shanghai Tower in China at 632m, Makkah Royal Clock Tower Hotel in Saudi Arabia at 601m, One World Trade Centre in the USA at 541.3m and the CTF Finance Centre in China at 530m. The Empire State Building in New York once held the record for the tallest building in the world, but now is ranked as the 24th tallest building, at a height of 381m. Mind you, it was completed in 1931, so it’s not doing too badly!

The Biggest Casinos

Today, with more people than ever gambling online, casino games such as poker and blackjack are enjoying an unprecedented popularity, with people from all walks of life getting online to play their favourite game on a regular basis. In response to the uptake of online gambling, the land-based casinos have raised their game in what they have to offer their customers. People going to casinos

today don’t just get the glitz and glamour of casino games; they can stay in some of the biggest hotel resorts in the world at the same time, where everything is served in super-size. Have a look at this blog post to find out more about the top five biggest casinos in the world. It may surprise you to read that three of them are in Macau, a former Portuguese colony that is now part of China, but the Chinese are now one of the biggest gambling nationalities in the world.

The biggest stadiums

Sporting events attract huge numbers of spectators, so it’s not surprising that there are some pretty huge stadiums in the world. By capacity, the biggest stadium in the world is the Indianapolis Speedway in the USA, which can hold 257,325 people (seated). It was built in 1909. The Tokyo Racecourse for horse racing can accommodate 223,000 spectators – but only 13,750 of those in seats. The second biggest all-seater stadium in the world is the Shanghai International Circuit in China that was built in 2004 and holds 200,000 spectators. No matter what event you’re watching, just being in a venue with that amount of people is a spectacle in itself! I visited the May Day Stadium in Pyongyang and it claims to hold 200,000 too!

Most of us probably wouldn’t make a whole trip fit around seeing the world’s biggest ‘whatever’ but it’s kind of fun to include something along those lines on your travels now and then. Aim high and safe travels!

Wow! Huge venues and I don’t know why, but hadn’t considered building an itinerary around them before. I think they’d be great sites to visit even if you’re not a sports fan – I’ll bet quite a few will give tours when there isn’t an event in progress.
