Touring the USA: Visit Wichita In Style

Not many people make visiting the largest city in the state of Kansas their top priority, but if you look close enough, Wichita offers a great shopping experience and the opportunity to visit Sedgwick County Zoo, the largest zoo in Kansas, amongst other fabulous activities.

Stuck for ideas on that New Year Holiday you were looking forward to in 2018? Then look no further. With a modest population of just over 600,000, Wichita offers the quiet environment you have been dreaming of all year.

Here’s your complete guide to this cool, underrated and industrial hub.

Visit the local zoo

Sedgwick County Zoo is the largest zoo in the state of Kansas and one of the largest in the United States. This is home to more than 2,500 animals of about 500 different species. The zoo was established by the founders of the Sedgwick County Zoological Society in the 1960s and to this day, it remains a touristy spot for those in search of a different city experience. In 2009, the Slawson Family Tiger Trek opened in what represented a great addition to an already fascinating zoo. The mission of the Sedgwick County Zoo is to inspire discovery, appreciation, and respect for animals and nature, so go ahead, be the attraction’s main adventurer!

Stay in a luxury hotel

No holiday is complete without a luxurious stay in a renowned hotel. Shuttle service included, the Wichita Marriott offers you the chance to have a fabulous stay in one of their suites. If you fancy being a bit lazy, you can even request for food to be brought to your room. Their fabulous restaurants The Greatroom and Fireside Grille are likely to have delicacies that suit your taste as these specialise in great American cuisine. There is also a gym on site as well as a swimming pool, for those who fancy catching up on their exercise routine whilst on holiday.

Indulge in the city’s cultural heritage

Wichita has a rich cultural scene, with the city being home to many museums and performing arts groups. If you feel like experiencing some of the city’s culture, you could visit the Wichita Art Museum, which is the largest museum in the state of Kansas and is home to about 7,000 artworks that are part of its permanent collection. The Ulrich Museum of Art is modern and contemporary in nature and contains over 6,000 artworks. On top of this, there are several art galleries you could walk into all across town, with these being specially popular in the districts of the Old Town and Delano. Make sure you visit these on the last Friday of the month if you can, as these are free then.

Whilst visiting Wichita might not have been your first choice, there are plenty of adventures you can embark on in this highly acclaimed cultural spot. The city was named the most “Uniquely American” town by Newsmax magazine in 2009, so dare to visit it and enjoy your trip!
