Ho Chi Minh City

From the Củ Chi tunnels, a series of intricately connected tunnels that span the underground areas of the city, to the War Remnants museum, Ho Chi Minh acts as a place of memorial for the Vietnam War, and a reminder of the hardships this country has endured. However this city, unlike the historical sites that proceed it on this list, is a fantastic example of how Vietnam has changed with the times.

Named after Ho Chi Minh, the communist revolutionary leader, this city’s deep history and beautiful surroundings make it a fascinating area to experience for yourself.

However, there is one area within the city that is interesting for a very different reason…

Notre Dame Cathedral

For those who are hoping to find a true oddity in their travels, Ho Chi Minh is home to the Notre Dame Cathedral. Built by French colonists, this architecturally Romanesque building would appear to feel more at home in medieval Europe than modern Vietnam. Notre Dame was built as a church in the 19th century, and has stood the test of time surprisingly well, as many of the materials used in its construction are not known for their aesthetic longevity. With that said, the building has hardly shown its wear, the warm red outer bricks still vibrant to this day.
