Meeting Celebrities on Holiday

All we “average” people like to take a break from everyday working life every so often, but it simply doesn’t occur to us that celebrities are just normal people too, working as hard as we are, sometimes even more so, and that they need to take some time off away from it all too. While their holiday spending budgets might be on a slightly different level to ours, it’s certainly not unusual to spot them out and about on their travels in the same destinations that we choose – did you know that 39% of people from the UK who have travelled abroad during the past 12 months have seen a celebrity while doing so?

To find out a bit more about what sort of holiday habits Brits have and what they experience during their time abroad, Sunshine.co.uk conducted a survey asking whether those who have recently taken holidays abroad have spotted a celebrity. They delved deeper to find out from that 39% what sector these celebrities came from, so that other Brits might determine which of their favourites they might be able to see. According to the results, you’re most likely to see an actor or actress while in far flung lands at 37%, followed by sports stars and athletes travelling the globe at 29%; if it’s reality TV stars you’d like to meet, they came in a 21%, then finally singers at 18% and TV presenters seemingly being the busiest and not able to take as many trips at 15%. You might remember that I personally met Roger Federer and Ruud Gullit on my travels.

And have you ever thought about booking a particular destination because you’d heard a celeb holidays there? Apparently it’s not as unusual as it would seem, as 13% admitted that it had indeed made an influence on their holiday booking habits!

When Chris Clarkson at Sunshine was asked to comment on these findings, he stated:

“Celebrities need their holidays too and, let’s face it, they get to have more than most, so it is inevitable that some British holidaymakers will bump into a famous face abroad every now and again. You’re probably more likely to spot a celebrity in more upmarket destinations and luxury resorts, but also if they’re filming in certain locations or away on business. Keep your eyes peeled, and, you never know, you may get a signature or two!”

So, we’re only left with one thing, the burning question of where should you be booking your next holiday if you want to see a celebrity? Fortunately, the most popular holiday resorts for celebrities aren’t as exotic and far flung as you might think; 27% had seen a famous person in America, presumably working on location in the majority of cases, or simply taking a break. It’s only a hop across the channel for us Brits to France where 24% of respondents reported spotting a celebrity, and in ever popular holiday destination Spain, 16% of people had seen a celebrity too.

Have you been lucky enough to manage to spot a celebrity taking some hard earned rest on holiday in the past?
