Last year I reported on the Uruguay v. Northern Ireland UFWC match. Since then we’ve had an entire World Cup and the UFWC trophy has changed hands 5 or 6 times. Along the way I managed to watch the drama unfold from 3 different continents as a nomadic football fan! In the first weekend of the World Cup, Uruguay’s surprise defeat to Costa Rica gave the Ticos the honours and they managed to take the UFWC all the way to the Quarter Finals, where they drew 0-0 with the Netherlands before losing on penalties. A superb performance from Costa Rica who conceded just 2 goals in 5 […]

Situated on the Essequibo River  opposite the township of Bartica, Sloth Island is happy to be Nature’s very own  paradise.  In 1997 the swampy island was rediscovered by bird watcher and enthusiastic entrepreneur R. Ades who turned the uninhabited, inhospitable island into his very personal haven of tranquility .Time would flow by with the rhythm of the waves of the Essequibo river  while .magnetic and magical was the discovery of nature’s secrets including the many birds, unknown species of  trees, the tropical rain ,the hot sun, the tides, the lively  monkeys, the enigmatic sloths, the six o,clock bee,the howlers in close proximity, the friendly paddling Amerindians.    It just became […]

This is a post I never thought I’d write. I remember staying at the completely horrendous Hotel Ushuaia in Argentina in 2010. It was a hotel from the Fawlty Towers repertoire complete with their own Basil Fawlty. However this week, it got worse. Heading to Rio in Brazil for the World Cup Final had me bouyant and after weeks of hostels, flat shares, airport floors and night buses, I was looking forward to staying in a FOUR STAR hotel. That’s right – a budget backpacker in a 4 star. However, unbelieveably this four star ended up being worse than all the other hotels, hostels and […]

stolen world cup tickets FIFA

This may come as a shock to some, but not to others. With the world’s greatest tournament, the football World Cup on during June and July 2014, everyone’s eyes will be glued to the screen watching. But even better is to be there at the World Cup watching it live from the stands of Brazil. However sadly for some fans, corruption within FIFA has led to the deliberate theft of their own customers World Cup tickets. That’s right, FIFA are stealing World Cup tickets as soon as they have printed them. The staff in England, Switzerland and Italy that are responsible for printing and putting […]

So here goes folks – it’s that once every 4 years sensation! The World Cup is almost upon us but if you haven’t booked your ticket yet – there’s still time to travel to Brazil. The tournament takes place between June 12th and July 13th and there are still tickets available for some of the games at the 12 different locations to be used throughout the country during that time (though these are, admittedly, mainly minor games). But when it comes to major world football tournament like this – it tends to be a “love it or hate it” type of thing. So being in […]
